Editor Overview

The editor's interface has three main predefined sections: The top navigation bar, the left panel, and the content area. Each of these predefined sections plays an important role in letting you make your site as awesome as possible.

Top Navigation Bar

Use the top navigation bar to navigate your site, both by moving between different pages and by moving between different device views. Click a page to view it, or click a device to see how your current page looks on that device.

The navigation bar has controls to undo or re-do simple actions in the editor, save your current site, and preview or republish your site. The top navigation bar also has an indicator for when changes in the editor are saved.

Left Panel

The left panel contains all of the widgets and features. Here you can find tools to edit almost anything on your site.

The left panel has features to make broad, sweeping changes to the entire site. For example, changing the color scheme or button design in the Design tab, add new features and widgets with the Widget tab, change your pages' configuration in the Pages tab, and make administrative changes in the Settings tab (for example, changing the site's URL).

Content Area

The Content Area is where you can move or add any of our features, or click and edit to change them. The content area allows you to change images, text, edit and delete buttons, and more.

In-Editor Help

For help about certain functions in the editor, click the gray question mark (?) at the top-right of the screen to open the in-editor help for information about what the feature can do.

Edit Page Elements

With Clever Responsive sites, the layout consists of rows that stack on top of each other and columns that are within the rows. This system builds the overall structure of the pages on your site. Within the structure, you further customize your pages by adding widgets to the layout and editing each widget within the page. The Global Design section

Global Design

The Global Design section lets you make global changes that affect your entire site. You can customize your site's text, buttons, images, background, and navigation widgets from this menu. This allows you to quickly and efficiently make sweeping visual changes, reducing design time and keeping your site's style consistent across pages.

In the left panel, click Design to open Global Design.

Changes that you make to specific widgets or pages will override these global styles. We recommend you first decide on a global style, and then make customizations to parts of your site that you want to stand out or look different than the rest.

Text Style

This section lets you control Text Style for your site, both for text and titles of all sizes (H1 to H6). Change the font size, style, color, and other edits that will affect the text for all future paragraph and title widgets.

Button Style

This section lets you control the style of the button widgets on your site. Select one of our button designs and set the background color, border style, and text. Choose other effects like adding rounded corners or shadows to the button.

Note

Enable the toggle to Hide the Back to Top button on mobile.

Image Style

This section lets you control the style of the image widgets on your site. Select an image using the image picker and add or edit the border style, rounded corners, or shadow effects.

Row Style

This section allows you to define the global row design in terms of background color, default row spacing and default column spacing.

Note

Edits that will be made on individual rows will override the global row settings.

Site Background

This section lets you control Background Style for your site. Choose between using a color or image as your background. Changes also affect the desktop and tablet.

Site Layout

Control the site layout navigation on desktop, tablet and mobile. For the desktop version, you can choose from two widths: 960px or 1200px.

Note

Changing your navigation's layout often affects the behavior of your header and sometimes the rest of your site. If your header suddenly looks incorrect after changing the layout, try a different layout.

Headers

The header is the part of your site that contains the logo and navigation. There are a lot of different ways to control the style of your header to help you create an appealing header for your site.

The mobile header has a fixed design, and cannot be customized. To change the content of the mobile header:

On the top navigation bar, click Mobile view & edit.
Click the content in the header to edit.

Header Types

There are three types of headers available—flexible, fixed, and sticky.

Flexible Headers

In order to customize a header, it must be turned into a flexible header by turning the header into a row. In most templates, the header is a row by default. However, in certain older templates, the header is fixed with limited customization options. Templates with fixed headers typically include certain widgets, such as social media links or a phone number in the header by default. However, these widgets are fixed and cannot be moved like widgets in normal rows. By turning the header into a row, you can add or edit widgets in the header.

Note

If you have turned your header into a flexible header and later decide that you want your header to be fixed, you will not be able to change the header back.

To set a header to be flexible and convert the header into a row:

Hover over the header, and click Header .
On the Content tab, click the Convert header to a row toggle.
In most new templates, the header is a row by default, so you are only likely to run into this issue when using older templates that still have fixed headers.

Fixed Headers

In some of our older templates, headers are fixed. This means that the header contains the logo, navigation, social icons and text, but is locked and cannot be customized by adding widgets from the Widgets section.

Shrinking Headers

The Shrinking Header is a smaller version of the site header, enabling you to keep important navigation information fixed without distracting users as they scroll down a page and without taking up too much space. It acts as a sticky header feature but condenses the size of the logos and other widgets in your header. It is particularly useful in sites that have large headers and sites that are designed for long scrolling.

The shrinking header is available on Desktop and Tablet views. Shrinking headers can only be toggled when the header is turned into a row. If the header is not a row and the template has a fixed header, the shrinking header option is not available. For more information, see Headers .

Header Layouts

To change the header layout:

Hover over the header and click Header .
On the Design tab, select a new header layout. Switching to one of these layouts changes fixed headers into flexible headers. Using pre-designed headers helps save time in designing your site. You can always select a layout and then modify it afterward.

Note

Selecting one of these layouts removes any existing content from the header section, so ensure you have a backup before selecting these options. When using one of these layouts the header becomes flexible and are not able to switch back to a fixed header.

Sticky Headers

To make a header sticky, hover over the header, click Header , and select Set As Sticky Header . The header becomes static and stays in place when you scroll through pages in your site.

Hide Headers

To hide a header on a page:

Hover over the bottom of the header, and click Header .
Click Hide page header on , and select the device you want the header hidden on.

To unhide the header:

In the side panel, click the Unhide Elements () icon under Settings.
Click the Hide icon on the footer, and select Yes to unhide the header.

Header Logo

If the header contains one image, the logo of the site will be kept when moving between header layouts. In the case there is more than one image, or the logo is textual, the logo image is kept as in the layout.

If you delete the logo, re-add the image by dragging the image element back into the header, and set the link to go back to the homepage. For more information, see Image Widget .

Other Header Options

There are other header options available in the design menu , which let you further customize the look of your header.

To access the header design menu, hover over the header, click Header , and then click the Design tab.

To display header items above hero images, click Overlap first row . This gives your hero images more visibility and makes it easier to design great-looking, trendy sites. Keep the following in mind:

For the header. Set the background color to transparent, or a color with opacity.
For the first row. Use top padding that is equal to or similar to the height of the header.

When switching to a new header layout that contains social icons, the icons are displayed as defined in the content library. If there are no social links, the social icons are kept generic as in the layout.

Right-click the widget, and click Edit Content . Select one of the following:
Site pages. Populate the content of the navigation links with site pages, navigation folders, and anchors. This menu will be generated automatically based on the site pages. This is a quick way to place basic navigation on your site. To edit the pages in your site, click Go to Pages .
Custom links. Build your own menu with custom links. This option allows great flexibility in creating quick navigation bars to add inner page navigation, footer navigation with only most useful links, social accounts menu, and more.
If you select to create navigation with Custom links, the editor will prompt you to populate the list of links with custom elements. Add folders and items to link them to external pages, internal pages, and anchors.

Design Editor

To access the design editor:

Right-click the widget, and click Edit Design.
On the Layout tab, you have the following options:
Select an Orientation for the navigation.
Click the navigation layout to select a layout for your site navigation.
Click the sub-navigation layout to select a layout for the sub-pages in your navigation.
On the Pages tab, click All pages . You have the following options:
Link Style. Configure the background color, space between items, navigation item direction, and select a divider style.
Note

When the Quick Navigation option is enabled the header and footer will not be reloaded when you switch between pages.

Link Text. Configure the font for the link text.
On the Pages tab, click Selected Page & Hover . You have the following options:
Effect. Select a display effect for the selected page. Some effects including further customizations.
Link Text. Configure the font for the link text.
On the Subpages tab, you can customize the sub-navigation style:
Link Style. Configure the background color, shadow, spacing between items, and divider.
Link Text. Configure the font for the link text.

Manage Pages and Popups

Pages and Popups

The Pages and Popups section is a major part of your site.

Pages allows you to reorder, manage and create new pages in your site. Organize your site's widgets by using multiple pages to improve your visitors' experience and increases the chance that they will find the information they need.
Popups allows you to add new popups to your site. Popups are a type of small window that appears in a web page. Popups can be set up to appear when clicked as a link or automatically as an action from a personalization rule. Use popups to grab user's attention or provide information without having to change pages.

Note

You can create a maximum of 1000 pages and popups on a site. The 1000 page limit does not apply when using dynamic pages. Blog posts contribute to the number of the pages.

To access pages and popups, in the left panel, click Pages .

Pages

Add Pages

To add new pages to your site:

In the left panel, click Pages .
Click + New Page
Select a page type. Page templates are pre-populated with relevant widgets. The Page URL page type links the page to another URL instead of creating a new page. Selecting a dynamic page template automatically adds a connected Internal Collection. For more information, see Dynamic Pages .
Type a title for your new page, and a URL, if necessary.
Click + Add Page and start creating your new page.

Reorganize Pages

To reorganize the order pages display on your site:

In the left panel, click Pages .
Click and drag a page to move it where you want it to appear in order.
Drag a page slightly to the right to nests the page as a sub-page of the page above. For more information about folders, see Add a Navigation Folder .

Note

Navigation can have up to 3 levels.

Page Settings

Access page settings by clicking the settings ( ) icon next to each page. You have the following options:

Rename. Rename the page in the editor.
Note
This does not change the page URL.
Hide in navigation. Make the page hidden on the navigation menu. It will still be visitable by the direct URL.
Duplicate. Creates an exact copy of the page.
Lock for Client editing. Lock pages so clients can only view, not edit or delete.
Publish page. Publish changes on a single page. For more information, see Publish a Single Page .
Page URL. Customize the URL for the page.
SEO . Access all the SEO settings for this page.
Set Access. Set a password for the page or configure the page for members only. For more information, see Password Protected Pages .
Convert to Dynamic Page. Click to convert the page to a dynamic page. Select a collection, and click Done . For more information, see Create Dynamic Pages .
Delete.

SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a site or a web page in a search engine's un-paid search results. Sometimes this is called "natural" or "organic" traffic. From the Site's SEO menu, you can edit the page Title, Description, and Keywords. You can also edit the header HTML for that page only. For more information, see Site SEO Settings .

We recommend adding SEO information (title and descriptions) on the page level, so each page can have a unique title and description. This is more beneficial than having one title and description shared across the entire site.

Prevent Search Engines from Indexing a Page

For maximum SEO benefits, all pages of your site are discoverable by search engines. However, if you would like to instruct search engines to drop or not include this page in their index after they crawl the page, you can do that in the page settings.

In the left panel, click Pages .
Click the settings ( ) icon for the specific page.
Click SEO .
Click the No Index toggle. This instructs search engines to drop or not include this page in their index after they crawl the page.

This action will only affect a single page. You will need to mark this setting for each page you do not want to be indexed.

Note

If this page was previously indexed, this change will take several weeks for search engines to update and remove the page.
This setting adds the <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> tag into the head of the page for search engines to read.

Popups

Note

Popups are not supported on multi-language sites.

Add Popups

To add popups:

In the left panel, click Pages , and then click the Popups tab.
Click + New Popup .
Select a popup type. The popup type pre-populates the popup with widgets.
Type a name for your popup, and click + Add Popup.

Activate Popups

Unlike a page generated in the navigation automatically, a popup can only be triggered by being clicked as a link or by using a site personalization rule.

Link to a Popup

There are several widgets that allow you to link to a popup, such as Photo Gallery image links, text, and buttons.

To link to a popup:

Right-click the widget that you want to link to the popup from, then select Edit content . Alternatively, if you are linking from text, highlight the desired text and click the link icon in the text editing menu.
Click Popup , then select which popup you want to link to from the dropdown menu.

Use Personalization Rules to Condition a Popup

You can create a popup using site personalization or set personalization rules for an existing popup. Personalization rules can include what triggers the popup to appear, how quickly the popup appears on the screen, and more.

Note

Popup triggers only occur once per session. A session is any activity on the site and remains active until at least 30-60 minutes have passed.
To see your personalization rule in action, try 1) clearing your cookies and cache, 2) using another browser, or 3) waiting until the time has expired.

Edit Popups

A popup is very similar to a page. You can add new rows, columns and insert any widget into a popup. To adjust the size of the popup, drag the bottom right corner.

Popup Settings

To edit the settings for a popup:

In the left panel, click Pages , and then click the Popups tab.
Click the settings ( ) icon for specific popup. You have the following options:

Rename. Rename the popup in the editor.
Note
This does not change the page URL.
Duplicate. Creates an exact copy of the popup.
Delete. Deletes the popup. This action is irreversible unless you have a backup.

Manage and Import Content

Manage and Import Content

Provides a place to store and retrieve images, files, and information for your site. The Images & Content section allows you to quickly add new images and access existing images, files and information. File size limit is 50 MB .

Note

Any file (text, image, video, and so on) uploaded to the system is publicly available. No personal and/or confidential information should be uploaded. To remove the file completely, delete the file from the picker.

Note

Changes made to specific widgets on the site override content added to the Content menu.

To access content, in the left panel, click Content .

Import Content

To import your own content onto the site, in the left panel, click Content , and then click Import content. Type your Site URL or Facebook page and click Import .

Collect Content from a Client

To collect content directly from the client, in the left panel, click Content , and then click Collect from the client . Copy and send the URL to the client so that they can upload their own content. To disable forms so clients cannot change the business information, select the check box.

The Import Content tool does not always allow you to import all of the content on a site; it is limited by what our robots are able to see.

Can I customize the content collection form?

You can add as many Business Texts or Images as you want to add custom fields to the form and connect these fields around the site.

To add custom Business Texts or Images, in the side panel, click Content , and then click Business Text or Business Images . Click Add Another Text or Add Image .

Manage Images

Select existing images in the Photo Gallery or add new custom images by clicking Upload New Image .

Manage Files

To upload a file, click Upload New File . When hovering over the file, a gray X button appears in the top right corner. To delete files, click the X.

Manage Form Responses

To delete responses received through a contact form, in the left panel, click Content , and then click Manage Form Responses.

The Form Responses page allows you to remove any response to any form on the site. You can search for relevant responses in the Search visitor info search box. Ensure you search for the exact name, phrase or characters.

Business Information

To add or edit information about your business, in the left panel, click Content , and then click Business Info . You can choose to enter one or more of the following:

phone numbers
email addresses
addresses
social accounts

This information will automatically be used in relevant widgets.

Add a Facebook Profile

When entering your Facebook URL in the URL section, make sure to use the proper Facebook ID for your page:

https://www.facebook.com/ + ID of the page

Find the Facebook Page ID

The Facebook Page ID is at the end of the URL, as shown in bold in the examples below:

Business Text

Give more information about your business to site visitors. Describe your business goals and explain why customers should use your products or services. In the left panel, click Content , and then click Business Text. Enter one or more paragraphs of information in the following sections:

About Us
Company Overview
Business Services

You can later reference this information when building your site.

Add Local Business Schema

To generate local business schema for your site, see Local Business Schema .

Find and Replace

This tool lets you automatically search your site for certain addresses, phone numbers, emails, and social media options and replace them when you need to update them.

In the left panel, click Content , and then click Find and Replace .
